Since moving to Ireland, the one thing that really annoys me an embarrasses me at the same time is the way venue's and agents alike call me the UK's No1 Tom Jones Tribute?  If you look anywhere on this site, you will not see one mention of me thinking I am the best at anything, let alone being a tribute to TJ.  I may say I am 'one of the best' but this to me is a broader reflection on what I have done in the past, the shows I have been in and how other tributes, my peers perceive me and of course how good some of the other TJ's are, and there are some really good ones out...

I have always been the kind of entertainer who will chop and change a set to suit my audience, and never had an ego to say "well this is what I do, so If you don't like it then tough!"  Im of the opinion that for the time that I spend performing on stage, I want it to be a good experience for both of us, entertainer and audience.  This has become a lot easier since I've started the Tom Jones trib because of course, I do all TJ hits and lets be honest, If you come to see me then you already have a pre conceived idea of what I'm going to sing!  That said, when I do a...

I've never been one to chop and change my PA system, I find one I like then I let it pay for itself 100 times over. I had a big rig from Adlib Audio Liverpool for years, It could match anything a band had and as I was doing Tom Jones it gave me that big sound I needed, in fact I worked with many bands who would use my gear at certain gigs. Anyway, as I got older, I realised that carrying bass bins up flights of stairs was not the way forward and so after 15 years, I sold it and bought myself a new smaller PA system. I use the QSC active speaker series and find that...

So last week, I came down with the dreaded lurgy again.   I lost my voice on the Tuesday and had a chest and throat infection, all this with the pressure of 3 shows to get through at the weekend, the first on Friday was in a great hotel, The Limerick City hotel in a venue called McGettigans,. I've never been there before, so I'm always excited to do new places, Saturday was a lovely venue called Sandyford House, I always have a great time there, bit laid back and not as manic as other places but a lovely place to work and Sunday I was at the Shamrock in Finglas.   When Im like this I always put pressure on myself...

Wow, I can't believe how long its been since I last put a blog on my web site, its over 3 years! A lot has happened since, which I will go in to a bit later but first, I want to say a big thank you to my mate Mike Powell who has sorted all the issues out on my web site, such a clever guy as well as being one of the best singers I know, (If you ever hear him doing Scott Walker or Michael Buble then you'll know what I mean) visit his web site on www.mikeypowell.co.uk I am of course still working as TJ, probably more than ever right now but not in the UK.  I now...

Another contract finished! It's 5am and I'm sitting in Tegel airport catching a flight to Brussels then a transfer flight to Manchester to make a 1pm Mothers Day gig in Liverpool. There are no direct flights from Berlin early enough at the weekends. I was still on stage performing 5 hours ago at Berlin's Stars in Concert, my last show was a gala for Subaru, I've been there for the past 4 weeks and I will be glad to get home even though there's no rest for the wicked! After the 2 gigs today, the first, an early show, then it's off in to town for a late show and then it's total rest! I'm taking a week off to...

So 3 weeks in to my run, everything is like clockwork, the shows are great, audiences are good and I'm on overdrive right now! Sometimes we get to do special gala shows next door in our convention centre, this room holds 1000's and is hired by companies for their own convention and there's always a party and entertainment when it's finished. On the odd occasion we work outside the city for clients,  like tomorrow, me, Suzie and Lee are performing in Düsseldorf, we have a 4 piece band 2 dancers, production crew and a sound engineer! They fly us there and everything is normally well organised. The gig is in the Hilton although we're not staying there, and it's gonna be...

So the first week has flown over, and I'm back in the groove again, although we have had a bout of flu running through the cast this week and so running orders and cast line ups are changing daily!  If as usual I'm 2nd on in the second half, I never normally come over to the dressing rooms until the show has started, if like what happened last week, I had done the same, I would have been late to go on as they out me on first as the opening act due to a cast members illness! I have to say, I only found out very late that evening and could have so easily missed it!  I've 3 more weeks to...

So yesterday was my first show back and it was good to get it out of the way, it's like blowing the cob webs off and getting back into the swing of a production performance. Unlike doing a gig at home where I'll always sing the full version of Tom Jones songs, here they are all edited to shorter versions and it's so easy to forget where the edits are, and as some of the numbers are production with dancers it throws it all out of sync if you get it wrong, luckily everything was fine!  We have a new Elvis, Dean Zee, he plays the young Elvis, 68 comeback style and he does an impromptu segment where he plays the...

Today I'm on my way back to Stars in Concert, I only finished my last contract on Dec 28th so it's like I've not been away! I'll be working with an Amy Winehouse, Joe Cocker, Madonna, Blues Bros, Rod Stewart and an Elvis, I know all of them very well as we've worked together over the last 4 years, except the Elvis, his name is Dean Zee, check him out on YouTube, his forte is the younger Elvis and he is very very good, our normal Elvis, Graham Patrick is off doing an 80 day tour of Germany and Holland and so as well as working for Stars in Concert, Dean will be his understudy in case he get ill.  I'll...
